Development of programmatic scenarios for the wider inner city area of Doetinchem
Within the process of the O-Team of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, marco.broekman has worked on programmatic scenarios for Doetinchem, within a short period. The municipality of Doetinchem, contacted the O-Team, because they are in a participatory process with inhabitants and entrepreneurs, and will talk about the future of the broader inner city area. Previously, the city has already developed a vision of her inner city, it now appears that there are many spatial-programmatic issues playing in the immediate zone around the inner city. The question for the O-Team is to help the local team in formulating the appropriate assumptions to carry out the scenario study. Besides marco.broekman the offices Urhahn and STIPO were asked to do a study.
Our prospective study shows options to make connections between regional functions, which are disconnected at the moment. And to accommodate them in areas with vacancy, as the zone around the center, the “Aanloopstraten” and the station area. From the programmatic themes health and welfare, education and industry, tourism and recreation, we developed scenarios and defined the main stakeholders to be involved. Doetinchem can strengthen its position in the region as a strong regional center, through the strategic displacement of program to the inner city surroundings and focusing on new arrangements for stakeholders and functions. This provides a kind of variation on the Triple Helix, on the scale of Doetinchem. Doetinchem sees itself as "Capital of the Achterhoek ', but should also be aware of its position on a higher regional scale. Between the Ruhr area and the Randstad, the city is surrounded by several strong urban areas. It is about regional positioning, rather than local profiling.
